Bilingual Arabic English picture books for toddlers

Speaking Arabic and English at home? A book with both languages on the same page lets every grown-up read in their own language, and the child hears the same story twice. These are bilingual board books and well-known picture books in Arabic and English, good for reading over and over on your lap.

How to use these books

  1. 1

    One grown-up, one language

Each adult reads their own language from the same page. The child links both sets of words to one picture.

  2. 2

    Read the pictures first

Skip the text and name what you see, in both languages, before you read the story.

  3. 3

Start with a story your child already knows

A familiar story in one language is easier to follow in the other.

  4. 4

    Ask the same question twice

"What do you see?" in English, then the same question in Arabic. Let your child answer in either language.

  5. 5

    Celebrate mixing

If your child answers with words from both languages, repeat the sentence back warmly. That is part of learning.

Questions parents ask

Why choose a bilingual Arabic and English book?

Both languages are on the same page, so each grown-up can read the language they know best while sharing the same pictures.

Do I need to read both languages every time?

No. You can read one language, the other, or switch between them. The pictures stay the same.

Is it okay if my toddler mixes Arabic and English?

Many bilingual children mix languages for a while. It is a common part of learning two languages.

Is there an Amor book in Arabic on this list?

Our first book, for children aged 3-8, exists in Arabic, but it is not on Amazon UK, so it is not on this list. You can listen to it as our own audiobook in Arabic on Spotify.
